The purpose of the federal Charter Schools Program (CSP) is to expand the number of high-quality charter schools available to students across the nation by providing financial assistance for the planning, program design, and initial implementation of public charter schools, evaluation of the effects of charter schools, and dissemination of information about charter schools and successful practices in charter schools.
In New York, the Charter Schools Office in the Office of School Innovation makes funds available for charter school programs for planning and implementing grants to provide assistance to approved charter schools regarding the implementation of an approved charter.聽 Funds are also available on a competitive basis for the dissemination of successful practices in charter schools.
- State Fund
The Charter Schools Stimulus Fund provides assistance to approved charter schools through a competitive RFP process.聽 These funds are suballocated to SUNY, who makes the funds available for the expenses associated with the acquisition renovation or construction of school facilities.聽 Funds are available only to schools in private, not public space.
